The electro system strips almost all paint immediately. Good well-attached plating stays intact, but I wouldn't count on it for anything with nice plating on it. I often use it just to strip paint from things that aren't rusty at all. If the paint comes off in a large sheet, I'll pull it out and throw it out so as not to gunk up the electro bath. My trouble has been when using it to strip paint from chrome-plated brass plumbing fixtures -- it ends up pitting the plating. I'm back to chemical stripper for them. For that reason, I would not risk it on, say, hood emblems.
