I should buy that crew cab FC you got there....

Well the plan has been to find a '60's or 70's crew cab Dodge to put on my frame, but they are like hens teeth and I already have a decent collection of parts for the Carryall...barring back doors...but there are options there. The real intent is not to "save" any money on the project, it is to not have to contract the 2-3 year infection of debt.

I figure that I will have in the neighborhood of $20k invested in the build and I hope to have it done in a couple of years...which is about how long it *might* be before I can Fred Flintstone it in the 2500....I have already had an F250 that would douse my crotch in rain water....and one side of the cab would lift on a right hand turn because the cab mounts were GONE.

My initial plan is to get my hands on a 2500 4x4 bare frame which I can shorten to the 114" wheelbase, then take my time putting the body on, making it rigid, and so on.

I have enjoyed the last several years of actually OWNING my truck and the thought of having a newer one with more electronic garbage and DEF and so on just makes my skin crawl. I hate the electronics on my current truck and I have a good friend with a '14 model 3500 who has had the truck in the shop a dozen times in the last year for everything ranging from a rattle behind the dash to a faulty PCM....and another buddy who just spent $4k on new injectors on his '06 only to find out he needs to rebuild the motor due to cylinder scoring from the injectors failing. the '14 has 50k miles and the '06 was a gentleman farmers baby until my buddy got it so it only has about 100k. Mine is nearing the 260k mark and everything is falling apart around the motor...repairing or rebuilding has essentially covered about 1/2 the cost of replacing it so I'd rather not throw that money away.

New stuff is nice...but it pisses me off because it's just about all garbage.
