My parents towed my '49 flatfender about 600 miles behind their diesel motorhome. The Power Wagon was on its own four wheels, not on a trailer or dolly. They used a tow bar that they normally use to tow around their Ford Ranger! Normally I wouldn't recommend using something built for such a small vehile like that, but it seems to be stout enough and it worked just fine. I just wouldn't do it on a regular basis.

Anyway, they had to tie the steering wheel of the Power Wagon straight ahead with a rope to the brake pedals. When they first took a trial run, they didn't have the steering wheel tied and the front wheels immediately made a hard turn to the left or to the right (I can't remember), the first time they came to a turn in the road.

After they tied the steering wheel, the trip went very smoothly, no problems.

This is probably ok for short trips or for one or two long trips, but I don't know if I would want to make a habit of towing my Power Wagon everywhere like this. Since the steering wheel was tied straight ahead, the tires and some front end components were probably seeing more wear than they should when cornering. Also, if the rope should ever come undone, you'd be in a real mess as the front wheels go their own way and you'd probably have a very heavy, uncontrollable vehicle behind you.

Matt
