Here's my 2 cents...
If it looks JUST LIKE the picture above (if it worked), or the pic in the link below (if the pic didn't work) it's an M601 and probably should be restored. M601's are pretty rare and I'm sure you could find someone willing to buy it for preserving no matter WHAT the condition. OR it could be a Flat Fender with the roof cut off, in which case it's a shame that it's in rough shape, but the truck has probably served it's owner(s) well and they did what they had to to keep it going.
In either case it's your money and, if you decide to to buy it, it's your truck. Do with it as you please. Some purists may cringe, but everyone enjoys these trucks in their own way.
P.S. As others have stated, the parts are probably worth more than $300. Especially if there is ANY decent sheet metal and if it has a bed (in salvagable condition) there are folks on this forum who might give you their eye teeth for that alone!
