I asked about dropping the 305 V-6 into a M-37. Well the GMC V6 was made in 305, 351, 401 and 478 CID displacements while there was a V8 Made by casting two more cyls to the V6. It was in the 630? CID range. Also There was a V-12 made by casting 2 V-6 blocks together. These V-6 engines were made from around 1959 thru the mid 70's and many still survive today. They were used in all line of GMC truck and some HD Chevy trucks of that time. The GMC V-6 weighs about 1000 lbs! you cant tell just by looking that it is so heavy. They have a scallopped edged valve cover like what a Chevy 348 or 409 and some mopar Poly engines have. The spark plug arrangement is very very odd, The plugs go in thru the inside sides of the heads! they look like they go into the intake manifold. These engines also run a long time and have tremendous torque! If you have one of these engines in a 1/2 ton pickup with stick trans and good gearing, they get great milage, but big trucks they like to suck gas bigtime. This engine is all torque. The bellhousing is not the Chevy Bellhousing but its the buick Old Pontiac bellhousing. It would not be good to put this engine in a early POwer Wagon or M-37 because it is too heavy on the front springs and also it will be even worse on fuel! around here, there is still quite a few of them running around and parts are not too bad to find for them..You just gotta go to a "Good" parts store like Carquest or NAPA. This engine would probably be a good canidate for a W-300
