I am putting a '55 291ci Desoto Hemi in my WDX that has the same bell housing as your 251ci 6. The bell housing will bolt up to the Desoto block, the flywheels are identical, the only thing is that the v8's had a spacer between the block and bellhousing, because the crank sticks out the end of the v8 block a fraction of an inch further than on the sixes. It's basicly a bolt in installation with the exception for me of having to fabricate a front motor mount to use the original frame attaching points.
Get on the Hemi pages as theres a wealth of info there to be had about your motor. Know why they stopped building Hemi's? It was too good of a motor. They were loosing thier profit margin by using such a high quality motor. Very high nickel content in the blocks and cranks. Well engineered designs that cost a lot more than what the competition was putting in thier vehicles. Down side, when you need parts or a rebuild, it's going to cost some bucks... The chrysler 331ci, 354ci, are popular so more stuff is available. Good luck.
