Tim: Many people stay in town in motels, but the camping site and Rendezvous HQ is the "Amphitheater Camp Ground" 1.0 miles south of Ouray on US 550. If you are coming north on US 550 from Durango, you will reach the entrance as you descend steeply before you arrive in Ouray. The entrance is about 800 feet higher in elevation than Ouray, on the east side of US 550 at a sharp 180 degree curve to the left (west). Look for the large Forest Service sign marking the entrance.
Turn onto the paved entrance road and follow it for 1/10th mile, and turn right onto a dirt road at sign "8551-A Portland". Follow dirt road uphill for 1.0 miles, past house and a few "No Treaspassing" signs. The large flat meadow at the top is the camp site.
No one may be there during daytime, when most everyone is out on the trails. You can also run into people in town. Have fun!
