The top connection is dead wrong, and the voltmeter is shown wired wrong. The voltmeter negative post should go to ground, not to the ignition switch. The alternator output can be wired to either the battery or the heavy starter terminal, but I would go straight to the battery myself so that the regulator inside the alternator "sees" actual battery voltage as best it can. The ignition switch terminal shown going to the voltmeter should go to some +12V source, generally through a fuse or breaker, although the M37s don't have any protection on their ignition leads.

Your drawing appears to be derived from one using an ammeter, but a voltmeter is wired differently. With a voltmeter, one lead goes to the "hot" terminal of the battery (or other convenient +12V source) and the other lead goes to ground, whereas with an ammeter the meter is wired such that the CURRENT going in or out of the battery (except to the starter) has to pass through the meter.
