Wow, that's some read. My best friend's father was in the Royal Navy and at the end of the war, they loaded vehicles, aircraft and other surplus onto the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, went offshore New Zealand and pushed it all over the side. Over and over. Same happened in Australia. My friends father told me that the idea was so that the local economy was not disrupted by low cost materials left behind. My own father, in Denmark, after the Germans surrendered, worked for a scrap dealer. At the airport, there were Mercedes Benz fire trucks and the British in charge at the time, had them cut behind the cab and sold for scrap. Later, British vehicles were supplied for the airport fire dept. So much waste when the countries could have used the materials to rebuild. Never happens today, right?....
