My Dad was in command of a truck company in Europe during WW2. He rode in a jeep, and the bulk of the trucks he had were GMC 2 1/2 ton trucks. They also had a few Dodge "Weapons Carriers" His words, not mine. So, the term may not refer specifically to WC's, but thats what the guys on the line were calling them, not just some ignoramus know it all from a car show!
