I used the system from the link below, but the site is a good read on how to approach the problem even if you don't want to use their stuff specifically.

The basics are you have two methods of reducing sound. Damping vibrations in the metal (mass damping) and blocking/absorbing sounds. Most of the commercial sound mat products and even the bed liner products mostly do the first. They stop the metal from "ringing" by absorbing vibration.

There's not really enough room for much sound absorption based on the site info, so they take to forming a second barrier inside the first.

The mass dampers in whatever method you choose makes the biggest initial difference, and is the fastest to do. The second step in their system is more time consuming but supposed to be equally as effective.

One of the big things I liked was they didn't advocate covering everything in sticky mass dampers, they only use partial coverage and then use a special automotive Velcro for the blankets which makes them easy to remove should you ever need to get behind them for any reason.

I used their heavy vinyl as my new firewall pad, just doubled up the closed cell foam behind it for some extra insulation/sound deadening.
