Also check the sender unit that is in the tank. Take the metal cover off the sender and check the winding and the contact arm. Make sure that they are not broken. Also make sure that the wound cone is not touching the metal cover. If it is just push on the winding to move back into position. If the winding is touching the case it will short out the winding and show a full tank of gas. My 51 PW had this issue. Mine is a single wire system.
