I don't know the exact size on the Sunshine hoists, but in general in the mines around here, the cable runs from 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 diameter, and around 5000' long. 5000' seems to be the practical limit for a single mine hoist. When they need to go deeper than that, they'll build another hoist deep underground and go down from there. The new shaft in the Lucky Friday is starting from 3500 and going down to 8200, I believe. If you want to dig your own mine shaft and outfit it with everything it needs, budget about $10,000 per foot.
