what do you mean by max? max sustained at speed rpms or how high can you wind it racing? the oil layer between the crank and bearing starts to shrink above 3200 or so. I run mine at that range or a bit lower every time I am on the freeway. never had an engine failure. I have wound them way over that offroad under a load but only guessing probably up to 5000 plus.
I had an old friend who used to race a 51 dodge with a built 230 that did 14.00 1/4 miles and he said a couple times when he missed a shift it ripped a piston in half. that was at 6K or so. probably lots of unburnt fuel heating up the piston unevenly
