Should be a pair of wires from the regulator to the brushes for the slip rings for the rotating field, three heavy wires from the armature windings to the rectifier pack, which should contain 6 rectifiers, three going to the hot side of the battery and three going to ground. Swap the ground side with the battery side of the rectifier pack and you'll have converted it to negative ground. No need to polarize it. It's also possible one side of the field is grounded to the frame rather than brought out separately to the regulator. If you fire it up and something is wrong and the rectifiers burn up, you'll know they were selenium because the smoke will smell like rotten garlic. Selenium is closely rated to arsenic and is almost as poisonous.
