I just ran it again and it was stable at 180 and I was pushing back snow, getting stuck, etc. No new leakage which would be obvious because of the snow in the radiator support (turned green last time).

The coolant tube was the first place I looked, and it was dry as a bone up there (no actual hose, but nothing on the top of the radiator where it would dump out (unless it boiled off?)). I do have a thermostat.

One difference this morning was I idled it longer then usual (10 or 15 minutes) . I wonder if, like you suggested, the thermostat was stuck, it got real hot and then once it started moving it opened and boiled out? Also it was idling slowly, so maybe the water pump wasn't moving much water?

The initial leak was really large, I haven't checked the level after my second run. A mystery in the old girl.

Thanks for the comments.
