I know were on the same page.
Also have a copy of the publication you mention.
I have numerous old 40's-50's Do-Ray, Signal-Stat, Arrow catalogs.
They all have "DOT" Lighting requirements included in them.
The Arrow lighting catalog is the best as it includes State by State requirements.
I need to get them Scanned.
Just recently scanned and uploaded to my T-137 Album the 1940 Do-Ray catalog.

Actually the three center "Identification" lights are not mentioned until the late 40's.
All that was required earlier was two front corner marker lights on vehicles 80" in width.
