This is my '86. I started driving this in 1995 and put the grill in shortly thereafter.
It might please you to know that I bought and built this wagon specifically to tackle the Colorado high country. When gas first approached $2/gallon, it got expensive to drive cross country. That's when I bought my much larger, but more fuel efficient W350 crewcab. I missed the size, versatility, and agility of the Jeep, so I started collecting parts for a 4bt conversion. That was 10 years ago. My new goal is to have it on the road-or more importantly off-road by 2018.
In the mean time (2009), my friend adopted the idea and built the maroon 4bt jeep. I loved it more than he did, so it became mine. Together, we've continued to improve its performance and prove the concept worthy of completing on the black Jeep.
