Or both ends would be prone to breakage. I think the splines are always going to be the weak point, too many stress risers.

One other concern that popped into my head: If you spline both ends is there anything else that prevents the axle from sliding too far into the differential and disengaging from the cups? I don't remember what the inside of the spider assembly looks like.
