Many times I used to just "eyeball" the disc in place leaving the pressure plate cap screws a bit loose and wiggle the tranny into place, then do the final tightening. Obviously, this is only possible on bell housings with inspection covers. Most times it was with light three or four speed transmissions. Wouldn't try it with a PW trans.....plus I was a lot younger. (lol)
