I'm using it more and more but still prefer copper for near boiler piping and at appliances.
I work on a lot of neglected bank owned homes and have numerous freeze-ups, yes the copper bursts first but I have seen my share of split pex also. Not in the long runs but right where its crimped to fittings where there is no room for expansion. and THAT means right at floor level with no extra slack to pull up to repair, especially on 2 story homes.
Another problem I've seen twice is where Pex ran in an attic or a horizontal chase, mice had set up camp and chewed thru the pex causing quite some water damage to the house.
