Take apart the starter switch on the starter and polish everything in there with a wire brush or wheel. Nice and shiny. Do the same for all four ends of your two battery cables. Make sure the ground point is shiny. Open the starter and vacuum out and brush gently all the dust out. Look for any connections you can polish. Once you get it going go treat yourself to some nicely made battery cables (my NAPA store did it for me). Get something with a lot of zeros in it, like 2/0 or 3/0. Use flexible stranded wire like welding leads not like THWN.

If using jumper cables get the largest wire you can afford. Get #2 or larger. #6 or smaller won't be doing you any favors. The longer the cable the heavier the gauge should be. On cheaper jumper cables only one half of the clamp is connected electrically. Make sure that half makes a solid connection to what you want.
