I'm not sure it really "goes bad" in a filled, sealed container. All our experience with gas "going bad" is in vented tanks where the more volatile parts can evaporate over time, moisture can get in, the evaporation can leave varnish and other residue, and so on. Besides, what's considered "bad gas" for today's high-compression lean-burning electronically-controlled engines is probably still better than average pump gas in 1950, which our old engines were quite happy with.
