Ok, maybe I'm being naiive, but why can't someone build it as a "custom" or "kit" car, like one can for an antique vehicle. Call it a "custom Chevy HMMMV-lookalike," and register it as such with a Chevy truck VIN plate, and a section of Chevy truck chassis welded to it. My buddy has a Ford 427 Cobra kit car from one of the bigger builders of these cars, and it is registered as a 1966 Ford Cobra, because he paid extra for the '66 VIN plate. In other words, how much of the original vehicle has to be retained to have it recognized, and registered as such? How hard can this be (to register it as a highly modified antique Chevy truck, or whatever)? Help me understand. Thanks!
