My Great Uncle Bill, my maternal Grandmother's oldest brother, marched from the Channel, through the Bulge, and to Berlin, with an M1 Garand. Oh the stories, I am sure he took to his grave in the early 1990's. My Grandmother's baby brother, Jack, was killed on Iwo Jima on the first day of the assault, on February 19, 1945. He turned 18 on the transport ship on the way there. Just a few months left of the war, but it had to be done to end it.
