It's a balancing act between viscosity, air pressure, paint volume, application technique. You'll need practice.

I panel painted my green five-window. By the time I got to the bed (last parts) it came out excellent.

Don't be afraid to sand off runs and orange peels. You are not in trouble until you can't buy any more paint.

"Panel Painting" means painting it while disassembled. Cab today, doors tommorrow, hood part next week. Fenders some other time. That way you can only screw up the paint on a few parts at a time.
