Some of the recent posts about military service and family histories got me thinking. Coincidentally, my daughter sent me a link to an Amazon page where there are several books designed to record the life of a grandparent for later use by a grandchild.

I thought that it would be difficult for me to put together a story of my life. But, some of the books just ask simple questions like, "What was the price of an ice cream cone when you were a boy?". The questions are designed to draw out memories. Like the ice cream question reminded me that one of my oldest memories was of ice cream sandwich vendor who still used a horse drawn wagon. Or, that ice for the icebox (not a refrigerator) was delivered to the house by the, "ice man". We were somewhat poor, my dad being an Army sergeant after the war and we still had an icebox when others had refrigerators.

Some clever people put these books together. There's even a space in some of them for (Power Wagon) photos.
