Doesn't matter how big he is. A shotgun pellet in the face is all the same. It's not a matter of him taking care of himself. It's a matter of him doing his job properly.
And, who said anything about shooting people. The guy can stand there all day long with the shotgun pointed to his head as far as most people care.
Hey, the deputy may even be hero material. I'm glad it worked out. But, his tactics were terrible. Sneaking up on a guy with a gun. Com'on. Your're going to defend that? Last time that was done, the Lone Ranger did it.
Why risk your life for someone who wants to commit suicide? If he really wants to do it, he will do it later anyway. Now, if there was a hostage involved, maybe, I could see it. But, apparently, no one else was in danger. Even while trying to save a hostage, the tactics would have been terrible.
His "herosim" was real small-town Barney Fife. What would the "big" deputy's wife and kids have thought if because of his "herosim" he had been seriously injured or killed?
What if the shotgun had gone off and killed the "suspect", do you think the next of kin would have been so accepting or would they have lined up at the court house to file a multi-million dollar law suit which would probably have bankrupted the town because of the poor tactics?
