I can see both sides of this but it is far too easy to armchair quarterback once it is all over. Was it needless? YES. If the kid hadn't reached in his pocket and pull out something none of this would have happened.

I'm the first one to say there are some bad cops out there that are blaze and glory and they should be dealt with harshly. They have to make split second decisions on what they see OR perceive to see. The real question to ask is why would the 12 year reach for anything when he was instructed to put his hands up? They were called in on a report of a male with a weapon.

Earlier this year the same thing happened at a Walmart near here. Report of a gay walking around the store with a gun pointing it at people. Cops responded, told him to halt and the shoot him. First reports were he had thrown the gun down and was on a cell phone. They said the guy was an angel and cops overreacted and just gunned him down. Locals started protests, Jessie and Al were getting set to come up and they were calling for the officers head and such. When they released the in store footage it showed him refusing to drop the gun and lowered it, He then got hit. Media doesn't cover it now.

All I can say is Dead is dead by any age group. Cops want to go home to their families at night too. I was always taught to respect authority and whatever the situation, do as you're told till they get it sorted out. I don't see that anymore and people need to start thinking about how THEIR actions can affect the situation.
