I did this with my W200 about a dozen years ago here in Vancouver. The cab on my '67 was very rusty and I got one from a '68. They DO NOT like you changing any of the tags on the rig and in the case of my rig they knew exactly what rivets were used.

I knew this going in because I had stopped and chatted with them about what I was wanting to do. They knew exactly what rivets were used. Unfortunately I don't think those particular style of rivet are available so I just used a standard rivet.

What they did tell me is if things don't match they would issue a state # and attach it to the door post. After a period of time I would get a title in my name if there were no other claimants or liens. A couple years I think.

In the end when I showed up with it all done and correct tag for the '67 I hand the guy paper work without looking at him. I did that because I had been in with a trailer a couple weeks before when my back was hurting. I started to get out of the rig and they sort of acted like I was going to do something I shouldn't. They were polite but being a criminal was not my career path even though that made me feel like it. It just did not set well with me.

Anyway after a few seconds the guy says "hey I know you!" I turn and look and it was Steve Crampton. He had been a Multnomah county deputy straight across the river and I had known him professionally for years as I was a firefighter in the same area.

This turned out to be a real stroke of luck for me since I really didn't want a state tag on the rig. This had been bought new by Dad and he was still around at that point and I wanted it to look very close to what it was new.

Steve starts walking through the steps and the minute he looks at the door tag he says you KNOW they don't like that! =) I explained what I had done and why and let him know I knew that but wanted it this way because Dad had bought it new. He checked the frame # and since he knew me he let it slide.

As I said this was about a dozen years ago so don't know if this procedure is changed since. HTH
