only the exhaust seats were hardened inserts. this was started in 1933 or 34 because most fuel had no lead in the 30s. I don't know what your reading that says 55 but having seen the 33 data in a few articles and seen the seat replacement procedure in multiple service manuals, and having rebuilt many engines dating from the 40s and 50s all of which came with hardened seats I would say your source is incorrect. I have not seen it as a debate. cant remember anyone claiming in previous threads they did not have them. VPW may be offering something that is harder than the original inserts but even the originals were harder than the block and last a very long time
