There is a formula I used it on the water tender when I built it. It pertained to the load on the axles as it was put on the truck bed. I removed about 4 ft off the back of the Freightliner. It shows if you take a load and set it on the bed and move it around it will change the weight on the axles. Now saying that unless you over load the bed the axles won't be over loaded. I put about 24,000 lbs on my bed in a 12 ft long box. It was not centered on the rear axles as I moved the load forward and backwards the weight on the axles changed. I was able to take my Tender to Maxium Load by doing it this way. A empty truck is not going to over load anything. You would need to at least put close to the max load and try to put it in the front of the bed or back of the bed to change things. A longer wheel base does not over load the front end unless you load up the bed wrong with a lot of weight. I will look for the calculation and you can see for yourself. I know it worked great on the tender and came with in a few hundred pounds of what I figured knowing the weight of the water, steel, tools, bed length, offset ETC.
