I went from a 2004 3500 5.9 with a six speed to an 2008 6.7 with the auto. I really thought I would miss the control afforded with the manual. The combination of the six speed auto and the VGT engine brake is outstanding. I gave up my manual to avoid knee surgery on my left leg, I'm not sorry I did. There are a few more service issues with the 6.7 but after 105K mine is doing very well. I plan to wear this truck out.
I understand the Aisin is now available behind the 6.7 and that it outperforms the 68RFE. You might want to spend some time on the "Turbo Diesel Registry" There is a wealth of information there re: the newer Dodges.
