They seem to need it every few hundred miles, just the upper cams. With those huge pistons, it doesn't take much slack to use up the master's stroke.

I take it your pedal is pretty firm, just low? Then adjustment is the prob.

The reason behind not doing the lwer cams is that the shoe is worn in to the drum, better than if it was 'arced' off the truck. Moving that lower pin will mean starting all over on the arcing. And they may grab or lock up in the mean time.
