Dave,

I bought a 47 WDX a couple of years ago for parts, with two flat tires. No problem I thought as I brought two spares with me to change out. To make a very long sweaty story shorter, two lugs stripped out in drum and would spin quite nicely thank you, but didn't do much for taking the nuts off. Next step was a mobile compressor, tires held air long enough to tow home. One solution was suggested to pull the wheel and drum assembly off and tack weld the stud in and then try again. I pulled the parts I needed and sold it to another PW owner looking for parts. As far as I know the wheels are probably still on there to this day! The moral of this story is be careful on how much force you apply as this could happen to you. I'd think heat would be a good idea if all other ways have failed, before I'd go to far with excessive force. Last resort would be to cut it off and install new studs if you can find them.
