Things you should do next time you look at the Cummins...

Get the engine and injector pump model and serial numbers off the engine and injector pump tags. The injector tag will be on the side or back of the injector pump, the engine tag will be on the side of the timing gear cover directly in front of the injection pump. Dont't forget to get the control part list number (will be in the box marked CPL on the engine tag) as well. These numbers will allow the folks at your friendly Cummins distributor (or at Cummins' home office) to pull the motor up in their files and correctly identify the parts/manuals/advice that you need to keep the motor happy.

They will also allow me to pull info from my manuals for you until you purchase yours...

Injector pumps on 4B's come in two basic flavors, but five manufacturers. They are all basically the same from a user standpoint, but require slightly different maintenance. In addition, acceptable fuels vary depending on which injection pump is fitted. All are very happy with #1D, #2D, and #2Fuel Oil; but only the Bosch A, P Pump, and Nippondenso EP-9 are also happy with #1K, #2K, Jet-A, Jet A-1, JP-5, and JP-8. The Bosh VE, Stanadyne DB-4, Lucas DPA, and Lucas DPS pumps require the addition of 5% fress lube oil to the fuel in order to provide proper lubrication if running other than #1D, #2D, and #2Fuel Oil. JP-B, JP-4, and Cite are not acceptable alternatives for any of the pumps. Do not add lube oil if you are running with a catalitic converter...

The number on the block is a casting number which is nice to know, but not real usefull...

Ford bellhousing adapters are pretty easy to get for this block, but I don't know if they match up to the S6-650 or just to the older Ford manual/automatics (I have much more experience with Dodge and GM/Chevy...). Also available are SAE#3 and GM/Chevy adapters.

I've got a 4BT-A in my M37, and a bunch more in equipment at work, so buzz me if you have any questions.
