Twice my brother and I have driven Power Wagons to Iowa from Michigan, about a 1000 mile round trip.

First one was a 65 with a 251, 5.83s and tach. We drove mostly 2800-3000 which is about 50 mph or so. Got about 11-12 mpg. But 251s are probably more sturdy than 230s.

This year we drove a M-37, 230 engine and 5.83s...mostly 40-45 mph. Got 9.5 mph for 1200 miles. This by the way, is a way more comfortable vehicle than the flatfender.

Last week end I drove my 56, 230, crash box, with 4.89s to north Jersey for the WPC annual meet. I drove up in the morning and back in the late afternoon, 200 miles round trip. Very nice ride at 50 mph (2500rpm) and got 13 mpg.

Don't plan on going fast, DO NOT TAILGATE...remember you can't stop fast but whoever is in front of you can, a spare driver really helps, ...and in this case, the adventure is in the journey, not the destination.

George
