Cleaning Engine for Painting

I have a 251 with very low miles in perfect condition except for looks. Its paint is flaking and surface rust. The engine is out of the PW. I want to clean it up for repainting. How safe is it to tape up all openings and media blast the engine. Anyone ever do this and end up with media inside the engine. I dont want to have to tear down the engine.
