Hey Ken, "spoke" with you on the Pilothouse forum. There was an article a few years ago in Hot-Rod magazine about these cheap paint shops. They (the magazine) went to a swap meet and bought a really straight '67 Ford Galaxie two door for cheap (ugly brown). They spent time prepping it themselves before taking it to Earl's ($99 back then). The shops will sand it, mask stuff off, and shoot it. What Hot-Rod magazine was getting at, was that if you do a little prep yourself, most paint shops are just shooting the paint for you. They took off all the chrome stuff, took off blinkers (masked the bulbs and let them dangle) and bumpers, sanded spots they didn't think the shop would spend alot of time with, or semi-hidden places. They cleaned up everything they could and took off what they could (even the outside mirrors, etc) and paid for a bright yellow paint job. The car was beautiful! (...for a Ford!) They might not have the widest selection of colors, but maybe they'd have something close. So I'd just say, if its not for a Show truck, and you're just looking to get it bright and shiny again, especially if you're on a budget (my budget's empty after buying the '48 Pilothouse!), and willing to put some elbow grease into it before dropping it off, then it might be the way to go!
Best of luck with it!
Dana
