Tim,
As someone who has fished off shore many times over several decades, I would suggest that you consider the likelihood of rough seas out in the deeper water, esp in the spring. Kids in particular are prone to sea-sickness, and that would make the trip excruciating for all if even one or two were hurling, as it seems to be "contagious". Unless it is pretty calm, the swells off shore mixed with the diesel smell tends to produce it even in people who are not prone to get motion sickness.
Have you thought of a charter that stays closer to the shore, or inside a barrier island? I doubt the girls would throw a fit if they did not go 20 miles plus out for billfish or tuna, as long as they caught something.
You could catch stripers, bluefish, flounder and other species in close, and they would probably be just as happy. Also, a lot less expensive then a deep sea trip.
I never get sick in cars or airplanes, but have off shore with the big swells on occasion. The meds help IF taken before hand, but tend to knock one out (esp kids) with the sedative side effects. Bonine is better as to the sedation than others.
