WC Gas Tank Straps and Insulators

I'm getting ready to install the original gas tank in the 6x6 chassis. Would it be a good idea to install some kind of rubber or fabric matting between the gas tank and the tank straps? I don't want the straps to chafe the tank, but I don't want to install something that's just going to fall out, or cause some other unforeseen problem.
