Hi guys, I am thinking of installing an electric ignition cutoff mounted up front near my Braden winch. There would be a parallel ignition circuit that would bypass my existing primary ignition wire. The wire would go from the battery ( now a 12v negative ground truck) to a large push-to-off safety switch, to an additional switch under the dash, then to the resistor that leads to the distributor points. To use the winch, I would close both switches on the 2nd ignition circuit, and shut off the ignition key, and the engine should keep running via the 2nd ignition circuit. If, while using the winch, things go south quickly ( understanding that ideally, operation of the winch is a two man operation) I could hit the button to kill the ignition and stop the motor.
Has anyone done anything like this? Disadvantages, besides theft ( if the under- dash switch is not hidden or key-actuated)? Thanks for your ideas and input.
Thanks!
- Jon
