wdx 1946 bed question

I am starting to work on my new acquisition a 1946 wagon . It seems that the previous owner or owners seems there have been three that I can track . I just bought a tailgate from vintage and it seems that its way off the hinge pins extend 1 inch on both sides then after some closer inspection it looks like the box is new and its been welded on the frame . Not good so I am going to cut it off and start over but I cant find any detailed pictures of the box and tailgate details. I want to look at a truck but dont know any inthe area any help would be great.
