I didn't have the opportunity to follow your post on the last forum regarding this issue, so I hope I am not repeating;
Way back in my younger, and much less experience years, I was overhauling, and souping up the poly in my '65 Fury. Bought a nice grind, Racer Brown, solid lifter cam for a 318. When I tried to start it, same issues as you, including, if I remember correctly, it would spit on a couple of cylinders only. Long and short, it was a 318LA cam in a 318A, and it won't work. I found out by taking the valve covers off, and observing the opening and closing sequence of the intake and exhaust valves on each cylinder while cranking. The sequence was all off because the valve layout in a poly is completely different from the LA engine family.
I wish you luck in resolving your dilemma.
Paul
