I'm in a telephone collecting club, and another member has restored a 1957 Bell System I&R (installation and repair) truck. It's a FxxD with all the shelves and drawers, and equipped with telephone stuff from the appropriate years that the truck was in use. The truck was transported from several states away, and it was a basket case.
The owner, Bob, worked for the phone company, as did his dad. The dad was not in the best of health as Bob was doing the restoration, and Bob wanted to get it done before the dad was not able to appreciate the project. The restoration took a few years and specialized body parts had to be found or fabricated. He had Bell System paint mixed, and found NOS decals for the doors.
The big day came and Bob drove the fully-restored truck over to his dad's house. Every telephone truck has /had a brass serial number tag riveted to the dashboard because that's the way the phone company does things. Lots of numbers.
Dad took a look around the truck, sat inside, and took a look at the dashboard tag. He then said, "You know, I remember that serial number! This was my truck!"
