Speedo Cable Lubricant

I just got done re-furbishing an original speedo cable for my '49 civilian. In my Motors Repair Manual it indicates the the cable should be lubricated with "special cable lubricant" that is poured in the cup as you insert the cable into the housing. Anyone know what "special cable lubricant" is, or what the best lubricant to use would be?
