Weld it up out of three pieces.

My feeling is that some loosen up and fall off, others get busted in rough handling situations. Them little 1/4" screws can't take much. And the repro parts are cast iron, pretty wimpy too. Get NOS or used if you can.

So what I did was drill and tap the winch body for a bigger size, and use higher grade bolts- allen heads fit in there better. Drill the heads and safety wire them.

But you can't drill and tap unless the drum is removed.
