They are pretty cheesey u-joints. No needles, just a hardened trunnion in hardened sockets. Waay expensive for what you get.

Probably more likely to be rusted up than worn loose. Disengage the dog clutch at the wince, and run it again. Get underneath, without getting hair or limbs wound into the spinning parts, and listen for where the noise is coming from. Maybe use a piece of heater hose held into one ear while holding the other end near the suspect.
