When my oldest was about 10, I was showing him how to check oil and pour it into the fill on our Ram 3500 van. He asked me about the sound it made when it went in and I asked him if he counted the number of "glugs" as it went in the engine. He said he didn't and I told him that you used that to measure how much oil went into an engine. My buddy and I were there and snickering about it so I assumed he got the joke.

Two years later, I had him fill up the wife's car and he dutifully reported back that he put the whole quart in and then 7 glugs on the second quart because the first one didn't fill it all the way to the top. The wife was there and immediately started laughing at him, asking who told him the story about "glugs." He immediately got that he had been had about "glugs" and was raising his voice at Dad because he had told his friends before and they didn't believe him about his knowledge of measurement by "glugs." He was pretty steamed for a few minutes. But I was pretty proud that he had paid attention to me as a kid.
