from what i have seen and read about the process, the fracking takes place well below the water table and water that would be in your well. there are 2 sides to every story. the most environmentally secure way to harvest fuel is close to shore oil drilling. when it is monitored and it is not 1000' down, it is controllable, cheap and safe. when the govt makes you do things like drill 2 miles down, it becomes much harder to monitor. we need to become 100% energy independent and bring down the price of fossil fuels so low that the russians and oil producing nations go broke. i believe the cost to achieve this is in the $50 per barrel range. We are 2mm barrels short per day.
